The Afro-Cuban All Stars are a legendary band created in 1997 by Juan de Marcos Gonzalez to introduce the music recorded at the Buenavista Social Club sessions to a global audience. Throughout the years its original lineup, featuring old Cuban Masters Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzalez, Manuel Licea, Pio Leiva, and others, has evolved into a multigenerational ensemble that performs most Afro-Cuban genres and promotes the unique and cultural diversity of the island. The Afro-Cuban All Stars Absolutely Live ll - Viva Mexico! album draws on excerpts of a live concert at the Cervantino International Festival in Guanajuato and captures the magical connection between the All Stars and the endearing Mexican audience. Presenting styles ranging from Afro-Cuban Jazz and Traditional Son to contemporary Timba, the production is an explosive showcase of danceable music that pays tribute to the All Stars founding band members, in addition to Mexico, a nation that historically has welcomed and supported Cuban people, including such divergent celebrities as Fidel Castro and Celia Cruz.
